Time Traveling

Entry: 2
13 June 2000

I get out of the Bronco and find myself in the parking lot for the University of Utah's Union building. The building is long and nearly as narrow as a hallway. I notice that I am not wearing shoes or a hat. I want to drive back home to get them, but then I suddenly don't care what other people think of me, so I go ahead and walk across the parking lot. As I'm walking, I feel the hot pavement and small pebbles under my feet.

I go into the Union and everyone looks at me. I hear them talk about what a weirdo I look like once I turn my back. I don't care. I sit down next to my dad, who doesn't recognize me, and I watch TV and read the newspaper. After awhile, I realize I've spent enough time here, so I go back out to the parking lot. I almost bump into a late middle aged black woman, probably a professor, who is a bit over weight and has black spots on her cheeks. I know that I make her nervous, so I deliberately walk in a different direction.

When I get back to the Bronco, Kid Rock, Joe C, and the rest of their band are walking past. I overhear their conversation and learn that they are looking for a car. I pull my keys out, but the Bronco pulls away when I'm about to unlock it. I see my brothers are in the truck, and that it has a different paint job and licence plate. I ask Kid Rock and crew if they've seen another Bronco in the parking lot and they say no. I ask if I can help them look for their car while they help look for my truck. They say they won't pay me. I say, "I'll just be looking for my Bronco and happen to look in the same places you do." They're satisfied with this and let me come along with them. I then notice that in addition to wearing no shoes or hat, the front of my shirt is zipped down, revealing most of my chest, and I get embarrassed remembering the people at the Union.

We walk around for awhile, then go into a building. I realize I don't know what they're looking for, so I ask them. They say they're looking for a car from the future. I look out the window and see many ordinary cars. Some look new, but I don't know what futurist cars look like, so I don't point any out. They're looking out the window with me anyway.

The room we're in fills with people and Kurt Cobain is on a make-shift stage in the corner. He says he's going to play a song he's never played before. I mouth the words along with him since I know the song, and Joe C looks at me. I realize the same time he does that I'm the traveler from the future they're looking for. It's too loud for us to talk in that room, so I motion towards the front of the house.

We go to the kitchen. I tell them that I'm the traveler from the future. They want to know what I'm doing here. I didn't even know I was in the past, so I just say I'm trying to get back to my own time. They're satisfied with this answer. Something occurs to me. The song Kurt was singing was rare and I think someone might be recording us. One of the guys smiles and reveals a tape recorder, hidden between the counter and refrigerator.

We return to the back room where Kurt is playing. I see an open spot on the couch and sit down. Kurt is on TV so I watch that, but then I remember that he's in person too, so I turn my head. A skinny bald guy with a tatoo of a green dragon on his shoulder is sitting next to me. He has a child on his lap.

__________
Dutch Oven

Entry: 3
13 July 2000

From a party, I excuse myself to go to the bathroom. There's a dutch oven where the toilet should be with a fire in it. I add paper to the fire and it leaps up. The fire dies down again and I notice that there are two inspirational books in the center of the fire. Since they're already partly burned and I don't want anyone to think I put them in, I decide to burn them all the way. I separate the pages and the books get burning good. There are also ceramic bears in the fire, on the left side of the pot. I don't feel the same need to destroy these as I did the books, but I end up crunching them into pieces. There was a black box on the right side of the fire, probably a portable stove. The fire starts to go down again and I throw in a ball of paper and it jumps back up. When I look up from the dutch oven, I find it has moved to a rectagle of sand next to a far wall.

Geiger, my cat, is eating a chunk from the fire, a piece of coal or ashy wood. She then walks across the coals of the increasingly rectangular dutch oven on two feet, holding a piece of coal in her hands. I want to get her away from the fire, but she doesn't appear to be in pain and seems to know what she's doing. I tell somebody about it and he laughs.

Someone reckless is driving a car uphill through a forested area. Then I'm on a bike riding up a very steep incline to the mountain top where a golden statue of Mickey Mouse rests. Then I ride down the hill. This time the hill is small and far away looking and the trail is golden. The bike seems huge and I need to concentrate to keep the large bike on the increasingly smaller and narrower trail. I force myself to go downhill really slow.

Then I'm in a strange house. My cousin Sean brings my diploma from another room. He makes fun of the pink bunny in the corner and laughs. Someone else joins in with him. I'm embarrassed by the picture on my diploma, but laugh along with them.

Russia

Entry: 4
14 July 2000

I'm in Russia with a group of about a dozen boys. We are at a party in which we don't mingle well. I need to go to the bathroom and so does everyone else in the group including my friend Pat. I lead the group through the house. As we walk through the party, some people look at us like we don't belong there, but no one tries to stop us. We get to the end of the house after passing through every room on the first floor. I start to climb the stairs. Two girls at the base of the stairway say there's nothing up there but beds and we should only go up if we mean to sleep. I tell them we're looking for the bathroom and they say there are a couple downstairs, but they're broken, so we should go upstairs. We go upstairs and there are five urinals in one stall. We take turns going to the bathroom. When I go, in the urinal next to the door, I'm afraid someone will open the door suddenly and knock me down.

We're outside, walking along the sidewalk. All of the buildings are regular looking except for a large ornate Russian building off to the right. We keep looking over at it while we walk. I can't walk a straight line since I'm looking over at it so much. The group now consists of at least two girls, and half a dozen boys. We are walking alongside a busy road with traffic backed up. The sidewalk is separated from the road by a large hill, about a 45 degree incline. One of the motorists gets frustrated with the traffic and drives off road, up the hill, passes a few cars, then pulls back onto the road. A Japanese tourist couple try the same thing, but they get stuck on the hill.

I'm walking next to a girl and we're trying not to bump into each other. We walk with a big gap between us. The group approaches a corner and the people ahead turn. The girl says to me, "Keep going." I think she means I should cross the street instead of turning the corner. I get to the corner and wait for some cars to go by, but she and the rest of the group turn the corner, so I follow them.

Now, I'm crossing a busy street with my friend Aaron. This street has railroad tracks in the middle, embedded in the pavement. A large group of Japanese tourists is crossing the road, so traffic is stopped. When I'm about to cross the tracks, I see my friend Israel get out of a car, just arriving in Russia. I point Israel out to Aaron and he goes over to meet him. I go over too, but the group I'm with, which now includes my grandfather Lyman, reminds me I'm supposed to cross the street. I start to cross the street, but then ask the group where Aaron and Israel went. I'm told they went to play some pool. I walk up the street and enter the pool hall, which consists of a series of rooms. I walk through each room, but don't look around much, embarrassed at being alone. When I get to the last room, I decide to turn around, but find out someone from my group, the character Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer, has been behind me the whole time. He goes on into the last room and I follow.

We find the two missing members of our group, Angel and Wesley, are seated in back with guns pointed at them. Spike makes a fuss and is forced to sit with them. A man looks at me and says I'm too young to be here. I reach for my pocket and tell him I'll show my ID, but he doesn't want to see my ID. So I go sit with the rest of my group. The man tells me I'm less of a trouble maker than they are. The guys I'm sitting with are vampires, so I tell them to get us out of this situation. They say I should because they won't expect me to do anything. I then remember that I can cast spells, so I cast one. The guns disappear as well as most of the men. There are three of them left. I cast two more spells and two disappear. The third says "What are you going to do to me?" He is the tallest and most frightening looking guy. He thinks my spells won't work on him. I point at him and he floats off the ground. Then, I point to the door and he is thrown out.

Still in the pool hall, but now the group is my mom, my grandfather, and my cousin April. Mom rolls some dice and asks me what she got. Two threes are face up, so I say doubles. That means she has to put two chips in. Grandpa gets out a case and opens it up. It's filled with gold chips. He pulls two out. I'm somewhat embarrassed by how slow he moves. April has a basket full of bunnies on her lap. Some are jumping around on the floor. I pick them up and put them back in the basket. They are about the size of my palm and very furry and soft. I'm a bit embarrased that she has all these bunnies here. Mom says something about a pig on the floor, so I hurry to pick up a bunny before the pig eats it, but it turns out I picked up the pig, which is the same size as the bunnies.

Prison Escape

Entry: 5
16 July 2000

I'm sitting in a high security prison where everything is automated. Since computers do most of the work, the guards are particularly lazy and negligent. We're allowed to walk around freely and talk with each other. There aren't even any bars, just locked doors. I'm talking with a friend when the lights go out and all the automated security systems too. The guards are slow to respond, but still a threat, so we must hurry. One prisoner gets behind the counter and starts handing out our prescriptions. We all have different chemical dependencies as part of security. My name is called out and I grab my paper. Another inmate takes me aside and says he likes me. He tells me all the prisoners should rendevouz at a resteraunt close to the prison at "full moon" and sit in front because the seats in back are hidden by pillars and plants and twisting corridors and it would be too hard to find each other. We could then escape the country together.

Me and another inmate end up running off together while the guards converge on the prison. Whenever we see a guard, we start walking and the guard passes by us since we're dressed in civilian clothes by now. We're only suspicious when we're running, but we have to get out quick before the guards bring the situation under control. We know that we can't go to the resteraunt since it's too near the prison. We run up to an empty tennis court. The other inmate is ahead of me and fumbles with the latch that opens the gate. A guard yells at us and we know he has a gun, so we think we're done for, but he yells again and we learn he just wants us to "treat the gate with respect." So after the inmate with me opens the gate, I close it gently. The latch is upside down and I right it so it can close properly. We run across the tennis court and open the opposite gate slowly and the man seems satisfied, though he does try to engage us in a conversation about tennis court gates.

Another guard sees us running and pulls out her gun. We make it behind a building just in time. The long and narrow building divides the tennis court from the parking lot. We want to go for the parking lot, but since the guard is so close to us, we can't. She comes running around the other side of the building. The inmate with me ends up getting caught. I run, keeping the building between me and the guard. When I circle the building once, the tennis court side is suddenly full of people. I stop running to blend in with the crowd, but I know she'll catch me unless I start talking with someone and act like I belong here. I find Brian, a guy I sometimes sat with at lunch in high school, is alone at a table. I say, "Hey Brian!" When he ignores me, I remind him of my name and it seems he already knew it was me. He just doesn't want to talk with me. I wonder if he knows I've just escaped from prison.

Erik, my best friend from high school, sits down across from Brian. They exchange a few words, then Brian leaves. I look over and see the guard scanning the crowd. She ducks back behind the building. I know I'll have a difficult time trying to escape here by myself. I look back at the tennis courts. There are now a dozen courts and they're full of people. There are women's doubles, mixed doubles, women's singles, men's singles, and mixed singles games going on. I watch a volley for awhile. A girl hits the ball to a guy, it bounces twice in his court, then he hits it back and the girl hits it way out of bounds over the fence. "It bounced twice in his court!" I say, too loudly.

Erik says he'll get me out of here. He knows I just escaped from prison. I notice my backpack is lying against the wall behind me, so I grab it and we leave. We enter a place called "The Boy's Locker Room." I'm surprised to find both boys and girls here. I learn the reason is because the locker rooms are now co-ed, making two locker rooms unnecesary, so they turned the boy's locker room into a resteraunt. It's very fun here. I find someone I know and we talk and make jokes. I have the feeling I'm being video taped while I'm here, but I don't mind and think it's kind of cool.

When we leave the resteraunt, I find out it was in the basement of my house. I go upstairs and drop my backpack off. I look around the house, but find nothing to do and nothing to take with me. I look out the window and see my childhood friend, Dave, is in front of his house with a girl. I go outside to talk to him. Dave introduces me to his girlfriend, who has light blonde hair - with the sun shining behind her, her hair is almost transparent. She also has squinting eyes, but they're sexy instead of nerdy. She says she has a twin sister and her twin sister steps out from behind Dave. They seem to know my situation, though I'm never entirely sure that they do, and they say we should all go to the airport. Dave gets in the passenger side, his girlfriend in the driver's side, her twin behind her and me behind Dave.

In the car, I look over and notice that Dave's girlfriend has removed her tennis skirt and her twin behind her is not wearing a shirt. Her breasts are tiny. The nipples barely stick out from her rib cage, and the top half of her body is completely tanned brown. She asks her sister what she can do to loosen me up and I realize I'm over-dressed. I remove the glasses, hat, and jacket which I put on earlier as a disguise. Dave's girlfriend then asks him what he has for her. He tells her he'll have sex with her twice a day, which she is happy about. Her twin asks Dave what he's got for her and he says, "A Human Sandwich" which pleases her a great deal. The street outside my house is all dirt. I ask what happened to the street. They tell me construction work is going on. I marvel at how different everything is since I've been gone. We drive further down the street and I remark on the fact that the Circle K is now a 7-11.

When we get to the airport, it looks abandoned. There are signs outside asking for us to deposit three bucks into the automated machines. Dave's girlfriend walks around a pillar and lifts up a barrier and we walk in. I see myself in a reflection and my glasses are huge and square. I look just like Dave. We walk up to a counter. The man behind the counter recognizes the twin and asks what it will be. She says she needs four tickets. I insist that they be out of the country. When Canada is suggested, I say it needs to be a different country because Canada cooperates with the U.S. on criminal cases. Then the twin gets behind the counter herself and gets a ticket, while the man gets the other three. I say, "So you work here?" She says she does.

The shuttle taking us to the airplane does loops and hairpin turns like a rollercoaster. I say "Whee!" on the first loop and someone standing in line behind us remarks, "I hope he was trying to be funny" because the experience is common place to them. The three people I'm with aren't getting on the plane, they just came with me so I wouldn't look suspicious. I give the tickets to the agent and he asks where the other three people are. I say they decided not to go and I'd better return their tickets so they'll get a refund. I run back to them and return their tickets. Dave's girlfriend kisses me on the cheek goodbye and her twin walks up to kiss me on the lips. She acts like it's a big deal and says she's never kissed anyone before. I think she's lying. I notice my lips are dry and chapped. I want to use some chapstick, but she kisses me before I can. They then turn to walk off. I point to Dave who's changed into Erik and tell him goodbye. I say goodbye to the twins and say I'll see them again later. I'm acting like I'm not a prisoner, but they seem to know that I am.

The second shuttle goes backwards. Before it starts up, the intercom announces that I will be in David E. Kelley's new television series "Boston Public." The three other guys on the shuttle are afraid of the backward motion and they all get thrown off. I think it's fun not looking in the direction I'm going and I don't get thrown off. The shuttle stops in front of a table with pieces of cake on it. I eat as much cake as I can. It's mostly frosting and tastes fantastic. I then get summoned to the airplane. I'm told I can get cake or whatever else I want on the plane.

The plane is fifty seats wide and mostly empty. I know that I'm expected to sit up front, so I sit near the middle next to a pillar. The plane then becomes four seats wide with an aisle down the middle. I learn that I'm not the only person on the plane getting special treatment. Someone sitting in front of me wants cake and the flight attendant who promised it to me acts worn out as he gives it to him. Then he tries to make an announcement, but is interupted by someone who laughingly asks for a fourth bottle of liquor. The green bottle gets passed down the row. I think I'd like to get something, but decide to wait until later since the guy handing it out seems so tired.

TV monitors come down from the ceiling and a voice announces that I'm in the new show "Boston Public." The announcer says I previously appeared in a hidden camera show called "Castaways" and the monitors show a clip of me telling a funny joke in The Boy's Locker Room. The voice says I also played myself in the Nicolas Cage movie, "Self." They show a clip of me in prison. I point out the monitors to Erik and exclaim "That's me!" A man turns around to look at me, but I don't recognize him. He has long hair and stubble. A kangaroo jumps down the aisle and I realize the man is Nicolas Cage. I point him out to my friend and say, "Isn't it weird I couldn't recognize him until I saw the kangaroo?" I realize Cage is the inmate I escaped from prison with.

The plane is going to Boston, which is in Cuba. The friend sitting next to me is now the twin and she asks me why I want to go to the U.S.S.R. I say I'd rather be in a country that isn't free than be in prison at home. I promise her I'll only stay there until I can prove my innocence, although I know I'm guilty.

__________
Star Wars

Entry: 6
30 July 2000

I'm in the upcoming movie Star Wars: Episode 2. I'm a young boy who is jealous of Anikan Skywalker because the force is stronger in him. A group of us are walking through a cave with electrical wires hanging down. Anikan uses the force to de-electrify them. He also uses telepathy to have extended conversations with the jedi master Mace Windu. I can only communicate a word or two telepathically.

At the end of the tunnel, there's a small opening. The bad guy, played by Jet Li, appears. He tells us we're all his prisoners, but then the intergalactic bounty hunter Jackie Chan shows up to capture him. The two go into a large cavern and fight each other in a pit at the center of the room. The rest of us sit around the pit and watch. There are some cool martial arts moves, then these small robots, one of them C3PO's head, join in. Jet Li is now a small tank and he shoots all the robots with his lasers. He kills Jackie, but is himself damaged and crashes into a wall under me. The cave starts to shake and I frantically throw piles of sand and suitcases on top of the tank until it's buried so much it won't get out. The entrance we came in is buried, but there's another opening. This one is on fire and has a cargo net closing over it. The net is mending itself to close off the exit. People are holding the net open for others to get through.

I squeeze through the net and run down a tunnel. There's another cargo net on fire nearly closed shut. I grab the part on fire and tear it open. I squeeze through and four or five other people follow me. I think I should hold this net open so people following can get through, but I see the next net is lowering and I need to hurry. I run to the next net and slide the toe of my foot under the bottom of it right before it closes. I follow my toe through to the other side. There are perhaps four or five nets I deal with in the same way. One of them is so close to the ground, my companions think that only a robot could slide a piece of metal under and sure enough a robot is there waiting to do just that, but I manage to get under myself.

We reach the end of the tunnel. I see a furnished room with various ribbons all over. The bed has a ribbon labeled "Aqua." A voice announces a contest and tells us to hand as much ribbons as we can to {name I don't remember}. Only me and one other guy are in the contest. I tear the ribbons from the various pieces of furniture and hand them to the person. Me and the other guy cover the room quickly. When I grab a plaque called "Titanium" that looks like a price tag to a watch, the voice announces I won a chance to caddy for Tiger Woods. I ask the other guy if it was him or me the voice was talking to and he says it was me. "It went off right when you touched titanium." I countine to grab other objects for other prizes. I end up driving off in a car. In the car, I notice I have two telescopes: one looks like a pen and the other is made of two lenses and a board. These objects were signifigant in that they gave me a chance to out-spy Ben Stein, but as I'm driving off in the car I realize they are useless so I disgard them.

I'm a caddy for Tiger Woods. I look out at the flag and say, "It's about 200 feet away. Since there's a bit of wind and since you're Tiger Woods, I'd recommend a 3 wood." He laughs at me since I don't know what I'm talking about. I end up getting to drive Dale Ephart's car in a major racing event around and around a track.

13 August 2000

I see a photograph labeled "I ran faster than grandma" which becomes animated, one frame per second. The series of photographs is of a six year old girl and her grandmother descending a large staircase. The two are seen from far away, so that only their height distinguishes them. The two are even with each other half way down the staircase, but the little girl gets to the bottom first.

The camera of the dream is stationary, looking down the left side of a long table. The grandmother and child appear. There is dirt/dust covering the table. The grandmother runs her fingers through it, making lines in the sand. The girl runs and jumps onto the table and acts like she's swimming the breast stroke. The grandmother says something to the child and the two begin piling the sand up in places. Since they work over the entire table and the camera doesn't move, they disappear from view often. They start moving in fast motion. I watch hills, valleys, lakes, and a shore line along the edge of the table take shape while the grandmother and child zoom in and out of frame.

Everything starts out the color of mud, but during a camera pan of the left side of the table, color gradually appears. I notice the blue of the lakes especially. The viewpoint then looks over the grandmother's shoulder. She is holding a white box filled with topaz crystals. All of the crystals are quite large. Some have cracked in half and have been glued back together. One of the crystals is brown and resembles an Egyptian pyramid on top. The girl says, in response to seeing the crystals, "Let's not put ghosts in, it'll be too much." Grandma puts the box away.

I am with my family in an underground building. The stair descended by the grandmother and child leads here. I am sitting with my parents and my grandfather at a table. Before this, I was in a guest room changing my clothes. I look at the fireplace and notice five Christmas stockings hanging above it. The first two stockings are called grandma and grandpa. The next two, named Chestnut and Maple, belong to my parents. The last stocking says Lotte and belongs to the little girl from earlier. I feel kind of bad about not having a Chistmas stocking, but after awhile, it doesn't bother me. I notice there are statues on the floor around the fireplace which correspond to each stocking. The grandfather statue looks like a thin Santa Claus with a long white beard reaching to the floor. I don't remember the other statues, but the Lotte statue had something to do with chocolate.

We're then sitting around a long table on the front lawn eating dinner. A large semi is parked on the street in front of us with a big screen television set embedded in it. The television is showing a live Metallica concert. After the first song I realize it's not Metallica, but rather a punk band which was just playing one of their songs. After a couple punk songs they play "Grandma take me home" by Nirvana and I realize they are a cover band doing many popular radio tunes.

I'm able to switch from my perspective to a bird's eye view of the area. Next door, on the other side of the hedge, I see a lot of teenage boys enjoying the music. The band is putting on a surprise free concert. I want to join in on the fun, but my family is in the middle of a meal. I rememeber I was wearing a suit at the dinner table. An avocado then appears on all our plates. The top of the avocado is LSD, the middle is turkey, and the bottom is composed of fuzzy strings. We all start eating the turkey portion. My mom warns me not to eat the LSD. I want to make sure I heard her right, so I ask her what she just said. "Don't eat the LSD. It kills people." I remember reading that LSD has never killed anybody, but I don't say this because mom might think I've tried it.

I eat slowly while my parents and grandpa eat quickly. I think that if they finish before me, they will go inside and I could join in on the concert. I also want to eat the LSD when they aren't looking, since the idea of eating it makes me extremely happy.

The view switches to an overhead panning view of the concert next door. My friend Patrick's voice narrates: "Not an optimal condition for taking LSD. The excess sweating and heat will reduce its effects."

When my family is almost finished eating, I look back to the van with the band inside. The lead singer keeps looking over at me. Once they finish "Grandma take me home" he jumps down from the stage and walks over to me. He pulls out some dollar bills and asks if he can buy me four or five hits of "butter," a code word for LSD. My parents are still at the table, but I don't know if they're listening or if they know what "butter" is, so I tell the guy okay. I take a quick drink of water, then follow him to the van.

Voting

Entry: 8
29 August 2000

I am in the White House, waiting in line to vote. President Clinton is sitting at his desk, apologizing for how slowly the line is moving. I want the line to hurry up. The voting booths are set up at a counter with partitions between them. A girl who looks familiar knows the names of everyone in line and walks back and forth behind the counter to talk to the voters as they're voting. President Clinton jokes that if the line gets too long, they'll set up a booth at his desk. The girl calls out someone's name and he cheers like he won something.

Pat is in line in front of me. The person in front of him is filling out a ballot. The girl behind the counter announces that we'll need 100% graphite pencils to vote. I think that a No. 2 pencil will be fine. I have a No. 2 pencil in my pocket along with some other things. When I come to accept the fact that the wait in line will be a long one, the line begins to move. Calista, who I knew in grade school and who I saw the last time I went to vote, finishes voting. Then several other people also finish voting.

The girl behind the counter acts amazed when someone at a booth says they're 17 because she is 17 too. When I get to the counter/booth she turns to me and says the same thing: "You're 17? Wow so am I." There's some cheering a couple booths down. I ask what the cheering is for. She tells me that they just reached the one millionth voter. She calls the name she called before and says she doesn't know who he is. He isn't the one millionth voter after all.

She asks me if anyone else has the same name as me. At first I say no, but then say yes when I remember Pat sent me an email listing books written by other Darrell Moores. She continues to talk to me while I fill out the ballot. The first questions on the ballot are intellegence tests. I don't remember what the first question was, but I filled out C. The second question is:

    2) 10.
    a) a dozen b) a group c) amethest d) bicycle

I fill in B with my pencil.

    3) A plane leaves Los Alamos?

I have no idea how I should answer this question. The girl behind the counter asks me what I'm doing in Bountiful (meaning Washington D.C.) I point to Pat in the next booth and say I'm with him. He says, "Ya, he's with me." She says okay. She says educated voters often vote stupidest. She tells me the story of a girl who, after graduating from college, forgot all her mom had taught her. She got a question on the ballot wrong that said "Do Americans go hungry during times of plenty or times of need?" She put Americans never went hungry.

School's Out

1 September 2000

I'm walking with a girl down a hallway in my high school. We decide to go outside and she knows a shortcut. She leads me into the girl's locker room. There are some girls standing in front of the mirror who are not surprised by our entrance. The girl I am with leads me through the locker room quickly so I don't see anything else. We go down the laundry entrance which is dark and has red carpet. A hippy girl wearing glasses coming up the entrance acts shocked at seeing a boy leave the girl's locker room but then laughs because it's not a big deal. When we see the door leading outside, a nun comes up behind us and tells us to stop. We do, but then decide to make a run for it. The girl I'm with runs ahead and out through the door. It's more difficult for me to run. The nun almost catches me, but I manage to escape out the door.

Outside a party is going on. There's music playing, balloons and decorations, and food and beverage vendors. It's an amusement park atmosphere. I walk down a sidewalk. There are shops along one side and trees on the other. I walk amongst a large crowd of people. I see a group of boys and girls standing in a circle. I stop to see what they're doing. At first it seems like they're pulling down their pants and peeing on each other, but when I look closer I notice that they have plastic water bottles which they're squirting each other with.

I notice my friend Rob is sitting on one of those cement rings they put around trees. I sit next to him and tell him about the girl I met and going through the girl's locker room and the nun that chased us. He comments upon what I told him. Then I'm walking through the crowd again. I move further away from the crowd to a place the shops end. I see green hills and trees with sidewalks and school buildings around them. I see Rob again, sitting in the same place. He has been beaten up. His eye is swollen shut, his face is bruised, and there's a cut on his lip. I know that he's a big fan of Fight Club and has been wanting to get into a fight. I ask him if he has gotten into a fight and he says he has. Then I ask him about the party. He says it's a party for the last week of school. I say I should probably go to my classes tomorrow for finals and stuff.

__________
Picking Grapes

Entry: 10
7 September 2000

I am hiking through the woods with my parents and my brother Brent. My brother and I get ahead of our parents and hike up the trail together. When we come to a pond, my brother wonders if we should wait for our parents to catch up. I look back down the trail and they're nowhere in sight. We hear the voices of three boys and I think that they're making fun of us. We hike around the pond. We see the boys sitting on a rock just off the trail. I know their names, but I'm not supposed to. I say, "Hi Steve, Eric, and Steven," but they seem unaware that I'm standing next to them. They continue to look at the pond and joke. My brother and I go further up the trail.

The trail is straight and narrow with cliffs on either side. When we get to the top we see a field of plants. The trail isn't as well defined now, but seems to go left. My brother, who is now my sister, goes left and picks grapes from the plants. A swarm of gnats descend around me. I look through the objects I've got with me for something to shoo them away with. The only thing I find suitable is a stack of miniature baseball cards. Mickey Mantle's card is on top. It's larger than the rest of the cards. I swat at the bugs with the stack of cards, but I'm only minimally successful.

My older brother, who is black, comes up the trail. The bugs bother him too. He knocks on the side of the cliff and asks to be let in. An old woman's voice answers that she won't let us in. He pleads with her to open up. I watch him as I continue to swat bugs. Something colorful down in the bushes on the opposite side of the trail gets my attention. It might be litter, but it may be something interesting. I start to walk towards it, but my sister gets my attention and indicates that I should watch our brother.

The old woman finally relents and we all go into the side of the cliff through a panel. Once I enter, I see my brother, who is now white, and my sister are sitting on some steps leading up to a door. The rest of the room is bare. The old woman tells me to sit. There is nowhere to sit except on the steps, so I sit there. The old woman then opens the door and we go downstairs. This room is well furnished with rugs, a couch, a television set, and shelves of stuff, but it is built for only one person. For some reason, the only way we can all fit on the couch is if my friend and I sit next to each other and my female friend and the woman lay down next to each other with their feet on our laps. A box of grapes is on my lap. I hand a bunch each to both of my friends and set aside a third bunch for myself. There is one bunch left and I don't know what to do with it.

"Those for me?" the old woman asks. "Ya," I say and pull out a bunch for her. Due to how the blankets are arranged, she can't move her arms. She's wrapped up like a mummy. I place the grapes on her chest. We all start eating. The woman tells my female friend, "I'm going to bite your fingers off if you don't give me some grapes." My friend then starts feeding grapes to her.

I look out the window behind the couch and see grape plants. I say to the woman, "It's too bad you can see grapes outside your window, but can never have any." Then my female friend jumps up from the couch and goes outside, explaining she wants to pick more grapes. It starts to rain and thunder shakes the house. I say, "I hope she's all right." When I say this I'm afraid my voice may have betrayed the fact that I want to be more than friends with her.

I look out the window. It's dark and the backyard is overgrown with plants so I can only see the side of the house. I don't see my friend anywhere. Then the weather clears up and I see a girl I went to college with. I ask the woman, "Is that Francine? Is that Francy?" My view zooms in and I see her face closely, but I still don't know if it's her.

"Ya, that's her," the old woman, who is my grandfather's sister, says. "You two used to be hot for each other when you were younger. You wouldn't stop gnawing on each other. One time you came down here, back when this was a basement, and she cooked up my hamburgers for everybody. My future daughter cooking up my hamburgers!"

Two figures run past the window, my friend chasing a smaller figure. I tell the old woman that two people just ran past the window. "That Michael?" the old woman asks.

"I don't know," I say. "Red coat. Black hat."

"Ya, that's Michael," she says.

I watch Francy again. She is walking with a child around the area. They are picking berries. I finish off the peach I was eating, and say, "I'm going to go out and talk to her."

Dead Flies

31 October 2000

I'm watching a music video with no sound. There are three naked girls rolling around on the floor. They jerk back and forth since the tape is being run backwards, forwards, and then backwards again. I find the video disturbing due to their jerky unnatural movements. I see one of the girls roll from the side, so that her belly is facing up. I look at her crotch, but the other two roll in front of her and I get distracted. The other two are joined at the crotch. The first girl's vagina is inside the second girl's vagina. They roll into a hugging position, then pull slightly apart, then roll back together. When they're apart, I see that one of the girls has bugs inside her vagina.

I'm in my room and naked. I look down at my testicles and see that one is inserted inside the other. I pull them apart and something is flicked out. A bunch of flies are launched across the room and land next to my dresser in a clump. I expected them to fly away, but they're dead. As soon as the clump hits the ground, a wolf appears mid jump right next to me and lands on my chest, tearing at me with its claws. Its claws are sharp and cause me intense pain. I'm soon dead.

San Francisco

31 October 2000

My friend Aaron and I go on a road trip to San Francisco. We drop a book off at a friend's house. We're about to hit the road again, when I suggest that we hang out in California for awhile and wait for our friend to finish his analysis of the book before leaving. Aaron thinks this is a good idea.

I want to add an entry to my dream journal. I know dropping off the book was a dream, so I write about that. I write that the book's title was Acts of Righteousness and Heinious and Reknown. I also note that it was dreamt in San Fransisco. While reviewing the entry, I see that I misspelled Reknown as an entirely different word, so I correct it, then Aaron and I go outside.

Aaron suggests, in the hearing of people sitting on the sidewalk, that we try to bum money off them. A gothic girl, Lexy from work, says there's no way they'll give us money. Aaron is about to ask anyway, so I tell him I have plenty. We walk down the sidewalk past a trendy resteraunt where everyone sits on couches. We continue down the sidewalk and find an escalator which is out of order and covered in black plastic. The man ahead of us climbs up it, so we follow him. Aaron finds something thin, perhaps a small stack of papers, wrapped in plastic. He starts to examine his find. The boy behind me is impatient to move on, so I tell Aaron to look at it later. The escalator wraps along the side of a wall, so we have to hold on to the railing and make our way "up" the escalator by climbing like on monkey bars.

When we make it up, we're on my kitchen counter. We walk past some people and cross the sink. Then I realize this is a dream. I look behind me so that I'll be able to write a description of the people I just walked past. One of them is jumping up and down inside a dumpster, and the other two are kissing. The girl is Trisha, the most popular girl in my high school class. She is wearing a white t-shirt and blue jeans. I'm about to continue crossing the sink, but then I realize I can control the dream. I squeeze Trisha's left breast while she's still kissing the other guy. I put my other hand down her pants and fondle her vagina.

Nash Bridges

31 October 2000

I'm watching an episode of Nash Bridges on TV. He's in a secret cave where a gang led by a blonde woman is hatching a nefarious plan to kidnap puppies. I become Nash and go to the end of the cave where I find the blonde woman plotting with her henchmen. The henchmen disappear and I grab the woman, who's now topless. Nash carries the woman out of the cave, while I stay behind to examine the cave further. I notice some floppy disks inside a tennis ball container which is leaning against a bathroom door. I think the door hasn't been opened in months or someone would have noticed the container. I realize that this is an abandoned hideout.

I'm watching this on television again. There's an exterior shot, looking down on Nash's motor boat just outside the cave. The blonde woman is still topless. She's lying face up in the boat, apparently passed out. I'm amazed that I'm watching nudity on network television. Nash pulls up to a larger boat, one with a roof, where two of his partners are waiting. He dumps the woman into their boat and drives away.

The boat the woman was in becomes an old rusted out truck. Nash and company are at a junk yard, looking down on the truck. The truck goes into a compactor and Nash makes a comment about how happy he is to see justice be done. I'm amazed that Nash would kill for such a lowly offence, but the woman has been his constant nemesis and she's done far worse things in the past, so I sort of understand why he is killing her.

I go back to the cave and find that it is no longer abandoned. The blonde woman's henchmen are walking down the hall towards me. I shove them out of my way and walk past. One of them pushs back, so I throw him against the wall and beat him until he gives up and leaves. I walk past the bathroom and see that the door is open. The tennis ball container is lying on the ground. I look into the bathroom and see men showering together. There are several men underwater in a large transparent bathtub. I watch to see if they come up for air. They don't. I know they are dead, so I look away. I pick up the container which is now empty. I see that Nash is here with a handful of empty containers. We sneak out of the cave.

I am now on my balcony explaining the story to my neighbor, who looks just like the blonde woman from earlier. I look like Nash Bridges. There are puppies in parachutes hanging from the trees in her yard.

__________
Out of Body

Entry: 14
31 October 2000

I feel like I'm astral projectioning. This is more than being lucid during a dream, it's as if I'm awake. I'm outside my body and I can't see. I feel like I'm floating, but my feet are on the ground. Everything moves slowly. I start at the front door of my house and walk down the stairs. I count the stairs because I can't see and don't want to trip when I get to the bottom. I count five, then think there might be six, so I count one more, and then I'm downstairs. When I get down the steps I open my eyes. I know this is more than a dream. It's so real, I think it's a vision. I take special care to try and remember every detail.

There are two cameras at the base of the stairs. I know I have to make a choice between the cameras and that this choice will be signifigant. One camera is quite large and bulky, so I don't bother with it. The other is quite small, so I pick it up and look through the lens. All is dark around me, but when I look through the lens, I can see into the next room in infrared. Everything is tinted red. I see that I'm recording and the battery is almost dead. I try to stop recording, but the buttons slip away. The camera is a cylinder and the buttons are always on the bottom no matter how many times I turn the camera over. I manage to push the replay button. I see a clip of previously recorded material, less than a second of a rabbit in my backyard. Then the battery dies and the camera is useless. I realize I should have watched what was already on the tape, but now it's too late.

I go into my room and look in the direction of my closet. I see my website. All that's happened in the dream so far is written there. "Hebrews 12" appears as a parenthetical statement to something in the dream. Under the poems section of my website there is a new section called "Various Poems (01)" I think that shouldn't be there because it's not 2001 yet. I read more on my website and see a message: "This website has been comprimised by theives."

I go upstairs. I hear someone singing. I look outside and see Polly Shore washing his car. I think this is something happening outside the dream, so I make a mental note to write down, "Neighbor's singing gets into dream" once I wake up. I continue upstairs and walk down the hall towards my parent's room. I know I'll find nothing there and I want to discover hidden things, so I run into the wall.

I'm blind again. I'm crawling through a long narrow cave. The cave becomes tighter as I climb up. I become stuck. To move, I have to roll around to the bottom, like the buttons on the camera. I realize that I'm straddling a balance beam. I hear the song "Oops... I did it again" start to play. Then I'm in a bright white room with Brittany Spears, but she looks like Christina Aguilara. She's wearing a red vinyl bra and hot pants which have a zipper at the crotch. I watch her sing for awhile, then I pull up the zipper, revealing her genitals. She smiles at me, so I put my finger inside her vagina, which is tight, warm, and moist. I look up at her and see that she is topless. She is smiling very much, so I move my finger around. I give her a long passionate kiss while still playing around with her vagina. Her boyfriend sees us and pulls us apart, but I see she is smiling, so I pull her close to me again and continue to kiss and finger her.

My Baby

Entry: 15
3 November 2000

My cousin's girlfriend is pregnant. She tells me that my cousin is the father but she doesn't want him to know. She wants me to adopt their baby and I agree.

The first day I get the baby I spend all day with him. I love holding him in my arms. Then I get busy at work and forget about him for awhile. On my first day off, I have time to spend with him again. I take him to my grandparent's house and all of my cousins are there except the father of the child.

I don't notice my baby has an awkward appearance until I take him out for a walk and see a large group of people all holding babies and commenting on how big their heads are. My baby has a small narrow head like a bird, much like the baby in Eraserhead. As I leave, I hear someone behind me say, "What a small head that baby had!"

I walk back down the street to my grandparent's house. I think my baby will be exceptionally brain damaged since his head is so small. I feel sad about the life of ridicule he is going to live, starting with the comment made earlier today and continuing for the rest of his life.

I find that I've walked down the wrong street. This one goes to my other grandparent's house. I back track and get on the right street, which slopes downward steeply. I jump into the air and float down the hill. I feel my baby's torso is shaped like a football and even feels bumpy down the spine like the cross stitching on a football. My baby's entire body starts shrinking and I don't know if I'll be able to hold on to him. If I let go, it would fall to its death. Then I think this might be the best thing to do for it.

I hold on to him. When I get to my grandparent's house, my baby is the size of an insect. I set it on the table and watch it smile up at me. My cousins want to see the baby, so they start passing it around the table. I don't pay very close attention to who has it. When I look up, I see that my cousins are passing an insect around the table with tweezers. I'm horrified that they would do this and quickly snatch the insect away from them. They explain too late that it wasn't my baby at all, but a real insect.

The insect has a scorpion's tail, which it jabs into my finger. Its legs dig so deep into the flesh of my finger that it's difficult for me to pry them out. I experience very intense pain at this point, but I have to remove the legs slowly and carefully so they don't break off inside me. Only the stinger is still inside my finger when I wake up, still feeling a burning sensation where the stinger was.

Dead Girl

Entry: 16
12 November 2000

I look into a mirror and see that I'm a girl. I'm in my early twenties. My face is rather plain. My hair is short, blonde, and combed straight down. My cheeks are slightly puffy and red. On a scale of attractiveness, I'd place myself at average. I know that I'm still Darrell, but the face staring back at me from the mirror is someone else. The experience is off-putting and a bit disquieting. I think that if I look into my eyes, I'll see Darrell somewhere behind them. I stare at this girl's eyes, but I can't see inside them. Her eyes are a wall I can't see past.

Later, I approach a group of people. One of the girls glances over at me, looks quite surprised for half a second, then looks at me like normal. I know she's surprised because I look exactly like a girl who's dead. I think that both the girl and myself are dead and that we got combined, with my mind inside her body, which keeps us both half alive. I want confirmation, so I ask the girl if she was surprised to see me because I looked like someone she knew who was now dead. She evaded the question.

X Guy

Entry: 17
4 December 2000

I'm a girl and I'm flying around the outside of the house. I'm naked, so I start to masterbate. I feel close to orgasm and shoot straight up into the air. I'm interupted by someone knocking at the door. I'm a boy again. I'm home alone so nobody else can answer the door for me. I sink into the backyard and fly around the corner of the house. I hold on to the tree and swing from branch to branch to help keep me in the air. I see a message nailed to one of the tree branches that says "You can do it!" in reference to answering the door. I realize that being afraid of answering the door is silly and that I can do it.

I drop down to the ground and walk around the side of the house. A little girl is standing in front of the door. She sees me, and as she greets me, she becomes my age. The front door then opens and behind it I see a big stack of alarm clocks arranged around a small mat on the floor. I realize this is where I sleep. The girl and I go into the house and suddenly there are half a dozen girls sitting together looking over strips of paper. Each strip of paper has a picture of a girl with her name and a list of numbers, one of them presumably her phone number. Most of the numbers are statistics of some kind. I joke that each girl's GPA over the years should also be included. One of the girls gives me her paper, and I take several others I find lying around.

Then I start looking at another paper. This one has a picture of a guy called X Guy whose eye lashes are died alternately gray and black and crisscross across his eyes. It looks like his eyes are covered by a series of X's. One of the girls gasps and says, "His eyes must be so dry." It appears the X's prevent him from closing his eyes. "Not so," another girl counters and I realize he does have a way to blink.

__________
The Idea of Good and Evil

Entry: 18
10 December 2000

I'm in school. Nobody's paying attention to me, so I walk out into the hallway. Nobody there notices me either, so I go back into the classroom and start flying around everyone's heads. I jump from desk to desk but still nobody notices me. I decide I'm invisible. I keep flying and jumping around the room and I'm getting angry that nobody is paying attention to me.

I'm outside my high school. There's some sort of event going on. A lot of people are gathered around the stadium. I realize I'm Ash from the Pokemon cartoon. In last week's episode I had started becoming obsessed with writing songs. I make up songs while flying around the school. Everybody starts calling me evil. I don't like being called evil. As I'm flying down a sidewalk, Jack Nicholson, who is the personification of evil, looks up at me and tells me I'm doing a great job with evil. I kick him in the head as I fly over him and tell him that's what I think of evil. I then notice the personification of good, a fat shabby looking priest with wings, and I tell him I hate good too. So he says I'm not the only one who can fly. He tells all the kids nearby to come to him and he'll make them fly. The idea that I won't be the only person flying disturbs me quite a bit.

I go back inside the school. A song I have recently written is being played over the speakers. There's a line of kids going up a stairway. I'm very angry at this point, so I grab a girl from the line, a young innocent looking red head, and snatch her up with me into the air. I fly through a window with her in front of me so her head breaks the glass and gets all bloody. I plan on dropping her to her death, but then I think this might not be high enough to kill her.

__________
The Sadists

Entry: 19
11 December 2000

A fraternity-like group of young sadists is making me and some other guys slide down a waterslide into a small pool. The location of this slide is the bleachers of my old high school's football stadium. Sliding down is fun, but when we get to the bottom, we find the pool is very small and it's difficult for us to all fit without running into each other. We all decide to stand up half way in the pool. We're supposed to stay here, but I know the sadists are sending down people to hurt us, so I and another guy get out of the pool. We watch Norm McDonald slide down into the pool. He then produces a book and hits everybody in the head with it. He smiles because doing this makes him happy. Then an asian girl, who I know from work, slides down and stops short of the pool. She kicks everyone in the head. Another guy slides down and hits the people standing in the pool.

The guy who got out of the pool with me walks back up the hill to the sadists. I don't want to go back up there, so I run down the football field until I'm behind a building and they can't see me anymore. As I'm running away, I hear people calling after me by name, not the sadists, but the mostly female audience who enjoy watching boys get humilated by other boys.

I walk around the building and climb up the bleachers on the other side. I look at where the sadists are standing and see that many students are walking around them without being bothered, so I think I can walk past without being noticed. I start to walk toward the sadists when I see two black girls walking towards me dressed up in bulky plastic clothes. I'm able to hear them talking despite all the noise around us. One of them says to the other, "Don't act like you recognize DJ." They're trying to be nice by not drawing attention to me. I'm supposed to feel ashamed for running away. I want to show them that I'm not ashamed. I stare directly at them, until they look back at me, then I point at myself and mouth the words, "Do you recognize me?" Both of them shake their heads and give me confused glances as if I'm a complete stranger.

This makes me feel bad and makes me want to hurt myself, so I climb up the fence that's around the tennis court and swing around so that my head is pointed at the ground. I want to let go of the fence and hit my head on the sidewalk. One of the girls sees me, climbs up the other side of the fence, and grabs my feet. I'm still holding on to the fence myself because I don't trust her to hold on. She pretends to lose her grip a couple times, but never lets go of my feet, so I release first one hand, then the next and tell her that she controls me now. She holds on to my feet, so I feel better and climb back down from the fence.

I walk around to the other side of the fence and see that a baseball game is going on. The sadists have to leave the football field for some reason and they come over here. The baseball players signal to them to make less noise, but the sadists don't even notice they're there. I'm not afraid of the sadists anymore and I'm mad that they're intruding into this area. I target the loudest one, the blue haired kid from work, who is shouting juvenile things into a megaphone. I run at him to knock him over, but he gets out of the way. Somebody else helps me out and we take his megaphone away. The sadists don't have power anymore and they're now afraid of me because they see how fast I can run and how strong I am.

The sadists start playing volleyball. My dad is on the volleyball court, but he isn't one of them. I also notice an old man there. I look over at the tennis courts and see a kid serve a ball towards me. I run onto the court, but I don't have a racket. However, I pretend I have a racket and I'm able to hit the ball back. The court is very old and has large cracks and bumps in it, so we can't volley more than once before the ball hits a crack and bounces away from us.

Once, while chasing down an errant ball, I run into one of the sadists who is retrieving a volleyball. He acts real scared to go anywhere near me, but I smile at him so he knows I'm not angry anymore. He bends over to pick up the volleyball, and farts in my face as he does so. He then smiles at me since in his fraternity culture, farting is a friendly jesture. I become angry at him again and he retreats back to the vollyball court.

When I return to the tennis court, I find the nerdy guy I was playing against is talking with an overweight kid. The overweight kid is complaining that no matter how hard he tries to lift weights and work out, he just can't get his chest as muscular as the nerdy kid's. The nerdy kid finally says, "All right, that's it," and takes off his shirt. He announces that there will be a vote. I pull out a megaphone and tell everyone to pay attention to me. I began by introducing myself, "I'm the man who's always..." I throw down my tennis racket and kick it comically, which amuses everyone.

I then explain that there will be a vote between who has the more muscular chest. Each boy stands to a side of the tennis court with their chest bared. Although they both appear doughy with their shirts on, they both have extremely muscular chests with their shirts off. The girls vote by standing next to the boy they think is more muscular. Both sides of the court fill up quickly. I say, "Okay, ballot counters, start counting," at which point a group of girls begin counting how many girls are on each side of the court.

I'm not interested in who wins. I look over at the volleyball court and see that it's now a table and everyone is eating rice. The old man's wife is serving everyone. The old man drops some rice on the grass, which I pick up and carry to the other side of the soccer field.

As I walk along the fence I decide to fly. I jump into the air, but can't stay up. So I climb the fence at which point the two girls from earlier reappear. One of them was now white. They call themselves half-sisters. I try swinging myself from the fence into the air and I'm moderately successful. The black girl who held onto my feet earlier started flying with me. I keep gliding back down to the ground, so the white girl, who isn't flying, tries to teach me how to fly. I go into a garage on the side of the road and swing myself into the air from the lip of it. I fly around a bit, then come back down to the sidewalk. Then I take a couple steps and lift myself into the air by flapping my arms. "You know enough to take five steps and then two," the white girl says.

__________
Block Party

Entry: 20
17 December 2000

I'm sitting with my family at a table in our front yard. A huge neighborhood block party is going on. While looking around us, we see Jean Pierre from my work riding by on a bicycle. Everybody exclaims together, "It's Jean Pierre!" We're all happy to see him. He waves back and continues riding his bike around the corner. We then see Carlos, Jean Pierre's friend, walking past. Pat, who didn't know Jean's name, says of Carlos, "His name is [something utterly riduculous] because [some nonsense reason]."

I see Carlos reappear and say, "Why don't you tell him that to his face?" Pat declines. Jean is walking behind Carlos. As he's walking past our table, I say, "Hi." He hands a paper to my brother behind my back so Carlos won't see. My brother reads the paper. I know it says something about Carlos being a criminal. My brother hands it to my childhood friend Dave, who scans over it and gives it to me. The paper looks like a negetive political ad. There's a mailing address stamped on the front. It says Carlos' name is Crawler. The front lists Crawler's accomplishments, rank in Boy Scouts, community service and so forth. The back details his shady activities. I don't read the back, but I know it's something about a past criminal record. When I look at the front again, there's a picture of a cotton swab, a jar of urine, and other drug tests with minus signs written over them. He tested negative, the ad announces, but wait till you see the back.

Jean comes back and takes the paper from us. Since Crawler is a criminal and something bad might happen, I wrap a black rubber swing around my butt. Since swings are associated with weightlessness, I realize I can fly with this thing. I run outside of the yard and jump into the air, "swinging" around the neighborhood. As I do this, I hear Jean talking about the double standard inherent in mail boxes. People with a certain religion, Mohaviism, have special rights attached to their mailboxes. Nobody can touch them. Mohavis also have the added priveledge of being able to walk around naked in public and not get arrested for it. As he's talking about the mailboxes I almost collide with a mailbox I know belongs to a Mohavi. I miss it and am able to land on the sidewalk. Then I swing back to my yard as he's talking about being naked in public and I realize I'm naked and children are watching me. I'm worried about them seeing me naked, but then I don't care if they do, and I'm suddenly dressed again.

I land in the yard and see the cast of Seinfeld walk past. I start to laugh and say, "Any time I see you guys together in public, I laugh." We see Kramer, who is represented by a cardboard cut out of a frightened cartoon tiger, in the second story window. Jerry says, "Oh no, he accidentally wondered up to the second story and he's afraid of heights." When I look back I see my mom is trying to save Kramer, now his usual self, who has fallen out of the window and is hanging on to the ledge. Jerry makes a wise crack about the situation and other people start piling on. Someone notices Mr. T is standing nearby and shouts, "Mr. T, what is he?" trying to get him to make a joke. Mr. T says, "That foo's on his way to join the spirit in the sky if y'all don't do something to help him." Then Kramer is gone and Mr. T is hanging from the ledge. I swing up, although I'm no longer wearing a swing, and grab a lower ledge. I reach out my hand and Mr. T hesitatingly takes it. I swing him down to safety. My dad says, "Now it's time to get Darrell down." I however have no trouble swinging down on my own.

It's now time for the Seinfeld cast photograph which was interupted earlier. Mr. T grabs me by the ankles with one hand and holds me upside down while Jerry and Elaine stand by - a whimsical cast portrait. I realize my eyes are closed and need to be open for the picture. I try to open my eyes but find I can't do it. I keep trying, but eventually give up. This is when I wake up and open my eyes for real.

Calm

27 December 2000

I'm at work, sharing a desk with a coworker. We both have headsets hooked into the phone. We can both listen to the customer, but only one of us will talk. We get a phone call and I answer it. A male customer, particularly angry, wants to know what his billing date is. I find out what it is and tell him. He repeats it back to me a few times to make sure he heard right. Finally, he hangs up. I start closing down the programs on the computer because it's time to go home. We both unhook our headsets. I look at the phone and see line one light up, which means we've got another call. It's his turn to take the call, but I plug into the phone first so I take it.

This customer wants to know her billing date too. She's also very angry and impatient. Since I shut down the program, it takes awhile to log back in. When I do, I ask for her mobile phone number to look up her account. I look up her account and tell her the billing date. She wants to know how to make it harder to get into the account than just knowing the password. I realize I didn't even ask for her name before revealing account information, so I ask her name and it does match the name on the account. Then I look for the password and see that she has none. I tell her, "You don't even have a password."

"I know," she says. "I don't want to put one on until I know it will be secure." I explain that many agents here don't bother asking for a password, and that anyone could say they were her to gain access to her account information. She's now standing behind me, looking over my shoulder at her account. I've clicked on the account notes to see what her past history with us has been. Instead of notes, I see a series of photographs. She explains her father put them there for her. I scroll down the photographs quickly, but she says, "I thought I saw the word Calm." So I look over the pictures again, slowly this time. There are a few pictures of her family, but most of the pictures are nature scenes. Near the bottom, there's a picture of a mushroom cloud. I look closely and see the word Calm is spelled out in billowly letters across it.
